~ Research Around the World~

I decided to explore The European Early Childhood Educators Research Association or

( EECHERA). There are several different groups that deal with early childhood. While reading and

exploring the different areas of the site I found out some interesting information that I plan to use in

my classroom. I also found great information under the special issue tab. The EECHERA also

provided educational research for anyone who wants to become members of their site I found this to

be great as well as useful. The brief overviews of each topics provided were amazing to read. I

enjoyed the support communication for non verbal children best of all!

~RESEARCH that BENEFITS CHILDREN and FAMILIES~

I indeed think research that benefits children and families is awesome. I'm an educator and for some reason autism sticks out with me the most. I've began to research autism more and more each day. I think with the information I've researched I might possibly have an autism child in my classroom. The child's mother has never can to me or the principal stating that the child is or has not been diagnosed with the disorder. My research says it all. I don't want to over step my boundaries by telling the mom what I feel about her child. I would  like to share with you guys my input of what I've seen happened daily with the child I would love the suggestions from you all as well. This little girl comes in every morning with her a small bucket of toys, she sits in a corner by herself never joining the class until asked too, when she joins its only one minute tops and back to herself in a corner or at a table by herself, she screams for no reasons and makes sounds when playing with her toys, she will un-dress starting with her shoes first, she hits and throws things things at the other children for no reason. Each morning her mom drops her off and tell her to sit down never looking back to she if the child sits or not closing the door behind her and the child pats the door and scream to the top of her lungs mom never comes back until the end of day. I have yet to hear the child talk, she never eats or potty through out the entire day. I've tried to offer my help and concerns but the mom never says anything. I would love for the child to get the help she needs before it's too late.

*** MY TOPIC***

The topic I chose to speak on is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the early childhood education field. I've been teaching early childhood for 3 years now and love it! I've taught children/students from ages 3-17 for 10 years or more. I've also seen, heard, and touched so many children's lives by the love, conversations, and lessons learned we've shared. To make my point sweet but quick I'm furthering my education by getting my masters in early childhood education. My goal is to find out why it's so hard for researchers to find a secure way to deal with autism.

As an educator I've came to realize that autism in the classroom is something that's hard for teachers, parents, and the child with ASD. Most schools (private) won't except a child with ASD. Their number one reason for not doing so is because their teachers aren't equipped to deal with autism in the classroom.

Public schools are legally bound to use an IEP to guide the education of a child with an ASD. IEP stands for individualized education plan.  In early childhood most feel the needs IEP's and testing is  too early foe 3 and 4 year old children. If these type of programs are in public schools why not have them in early childhood education it would outline therapy and educational programs that will be provided to help ensure a child's educational success. Therapies might include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and behavioral therapy. The IEP might also define the time your child will spend with a special education teacher.

 Topics~
* What is the best way to help a child with ASD learn?
* Why certain schools don't accept ASD children?
* Will schools continue to be difficult when dealing with ASD children?

~ MY SUPPORTS ~

I am very thankful that my life is filled with support. When I decided to continue my education I was hesitant. I feel I was hesitant because I felt I was too old. All the long I needed support from the people I loved the most. Having their support really made my transition much easier.

In my daily life I get support from my parents, husband, son and Walden University instructors. Without their support I don't think I would have been able to go back to school. I can truly say Walden University has offered me much support by making my transition to school easier.

My instructors at at Walden have been very helpful and considerate whenever there is a problem. My family has been supportive by encouraging me to do my best and  allowing me the uninterrupted times I have needed to complete my work.

In conclusion, we all need a support in our lives because it makes your life much easier. Having a support system helps me to be a  better person. I couldn't imagine not having any support in my life than I would be very unhappy.

~ MY CONNECTION to PLAY~

The two quotes that summarized what play represented for me in childhood would be PLAY is our brains favorite way of learning by Diane Ackerman- Contemporary American author, and children need the freedom and time to play. Play is a necessity by Kay Redifield Jamison-Contemporary American professor of psychiatry. As a child I enjoyed playing board games such as connect flour checkers and tic-tac-toe. Playing these games has always relaxed me. I've always liked to swing and the slide made me feel free and also eased my mind. Playing on the three or with the three made me feel great.

                                                   mother and daughter playing chess

My supportive family has always been there for me when play is involved by making sure I had enjoyable things to do at home. My parents and sisters would play with me as well. As a child I had a swing set in my back yard. Play was very important to my entire family. I've always been the type of child who loved to play on the slide, swings, and merry-go-round while at school.

In today's world play has changed somewhat because people value play as much today as they did when I was younger. Play is filled with electronics and this allows children to have less physical exercise because of all the electronic items available now.

In conclusion, play has always been important in my life. I've learned many things from play. Play has also helped me to relax. Play is a very important role in a child's life today.

~ RELATIONSHIP REFLECTION~

I have a adorable, caring, loving, respectful and trustworthy relationship with my family. The people I consider a positive relationship with are my parents, hubby, my one and only son, my 3 sisters, brother, and my in-laws. The ways in which each of the relationships I have with them are indeed positive and I maintained each relationship by welcoming them in into my life and my entire world!!We adopt techniques of how we approach one another. I observe and listen to each and everyone of them. I don't judge I'm open to all my family members equally.

I've learned to be very caring, warm, and responsive in all relationships with each person in order to continue our partnership. My characteristics of a relationship with my family is respect, trust, support, honesty and accountability, shared responsibility, and just love one another. My experiences with relationships/partnership would work effective with early childhood professionals because of the skills and practices that would allow me to enhance the positive development of the children in our care.

~THREE CONSEQUENCES~

***Three consequences while making contacts with others; I had to search sites and listen to global podcast....

1. The effects of Changing Demographics and Diversity on Children, Families and the EC professionals ~ Impact on Schools- Children of immigrants have lower rates of preschool enrollment at younger ages.

2. The Harlem Children's Zone, The Baby College and the amazing number of people that graduate form this college. Awesome programs they offer for parents and expectant parents.

3.The quality or equity~ New information related to the early childhood field. The many things that are going on across the nation and other countries.

*** My goal is to continue the master's program and being the best educator I know how to be, I will continue researching, reading, and learning more about NAEYC.

~ Internatinal Contacts Part 3~

Issues regarding quality and early childhood professional where I live and work will be getting the proper education and state issued license. In the state of Mississippi the standards for Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/ Early and Middle Childhood the core mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to create field specific standards for accomplished teaching that are in the Five Core Propositions and that articulate the actions that accomplished teachers employ to advance student learning. With the National Board Certification a teacher must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, have a minimum of three years teaching experience and where it is required, hold a state teaching license.
My professional goal is to complete my master's degree in Early Childhood Education. Then some day become a director of an Early Childhood Center or Head Start.

~SHARING WEB RESOURCES~

I chose to follow Harlem Children's Zone. According to the article back in April, Rheedlen Centers for Children and Families changed their name to The Harlem Children's Zone  changing their name made them better by the place they were in life and what they do as well as who they are. After, looking at The Harlem Children's Zone and seeing they services approximately 450 full and part time employees. The name only changed because they are still big at heart. They continue to improve the lives of poor children which lives in the most devastated community in America. Another interesting program they offer that I found was amazing is The Baby College. This college offers a nine week parenting workshop to expectant parents and those raising a child up to three years old. I'm amazed because not all city, states, nor communities offers baby colleges. It would indeed help young mothers to become more responsible and would really slow down or stop the large number of teen pregnancy in the world. This college provides workshops which promote reading to the children and verbal discipline over corporal punishment. Harlem's Baby College has a large number of people to graduate from this college.
By age three, children from families on welfare have cumulative vocabulary of 525 words; (Betty Hart and Todd R. Risley, Meaningful Differences in the Everyday Experience of Young American Children, Paul H. Brooks Publishing Co., 1995).

My insight as a professional is that positive things can happen in a city, state, or community while living in a devastated area.

~ GLOBAL CHILDREN ~

According to Global Children's Initiative Fact sheet the center's commitment to global work represents and acknowledge moral responsibility to meet the needs of all children and a critical investment in the roots of economic producity, positive health outcomes and strong civil society in all nations; from poorest to the most afflient.

Global Children's Initiative seek to advance the center's mission globally by implementing a compelling research which allows public engagement and leadship development agenda in child health and development which is grounded in science and engages researches from around the world.

The global program focus on three strategic areas:

* Reframing the discourse around children health and development
*Supporting innovative, multi-disciplinary research and demonstration projects
*Lastly, building leadship capacity in child development research and policy
These are insights I enjoyed learning more about in the early childhood system around the globe...

~RESOURCES PART 2~

I'm researching The Candian Association for Young Children. They have a Canadian Children's Journal and e-newsletter. The Canadian Children's Journal is published twice yearly. The e-newswletter is very supportative of parents as well others. CAYC was granted its Federal Charter in 1974. According to them they influece the direction and quality of policies and programs that affects the development and well being of young children in Canada. They also promote and provide opportunties for professional development for those chared with the care and education of young children.

They have a National Conference October 19 and 20,2012 entitled Wmbracing Complexity in Daily Life of the School: The Learning Process Through Observation, Interpretation and Documentation. I would love to go just to see how things are ran in Canada and to see if the United States conferences are different. I'm sure it would be an success. They also have e-newsletters which you can read online or contact Elizabeth Ashton for more information. Their intentions of the e-newsletters is to inform parents and readers about current news and events. The e-newsletter has so many articles for parents and others to help better understand what's going on in the centers as well as what they will provide in the centers.

^^^^ POVERTY in the WORLD ^^^^

# According to CHIP- Knowledge for Tackling Childhood Poverty ~

# Children in poverty have to face many disadvantaged groups.
# Children poverty are characterised as children with special needs, streetchildren, orphans, and child
   workers.
#According to CHIP~

# Poverty denies opportunties to people of all ages.
# Malnutrition in early childhood can also lead to life long learning difficulties and poor health.
# Poverty can also be passed on from generations to generations affecting the long term health, and well
being as well a productivity of families and society.

***RESOURCES***

The name of the organziation I chose is the National Head Start Association. This organization offers a wide variety of services to its members as well as to the Head Start and Early Childhood communties.

The National Head Start Association is known as NHSA. NHSa maintains a close relationship with leading independent reseachers in the field of early childhood education. Head Start promotes a strong vision statement that I admire! Their vision caught my eye because it stated "to be the untiring voice that will not be quiet until every vulnerable child is served with the Head Start model of support for the child, their families and the community. They also advocate to work diligently for policy and institutional changes that will ensure all vulnerable children and their families to have what they need to succeed.

With this being said I love their statement!!! Poverty is all over the world and to me this statement allows as well as assures families their child/children will be taken care of as well as succeed.

In conclusion, I truly enjoyed this website. I will definitely be using it again.

~** EXPANDING RESOURCES **~

These are the two early childhood organzations I contacted... The fisrt one is The British Assocation for Early Childhood Education http://www.early-education.org.uk/ and the second one is The Canadian Association for Young Children http://www.cayc.ca/indexjournal.html. I chose these two organizations because I felt the need that their organzations or programs could be ran different from the organizations and programs in the United States!! I would like to know how effective their organizations are and if there are any similarity between their organiztions and our organizations. I'm assuming because of the timing I submitted to both organizations I have yet gotten a response from them. I've never visited neither place nor do I know of anyone in my circle that has but; I'm very anixious to hear from something educational and interesting about both!!.. While, researching I found that the National Conference states  their program includes lectures by internationally reowned authorities on children, school visits and tours etc. They have also have an Canadian Children Journal that is published twice yearly. In British their Development Matters are non-statutory guidance to support practitioners in implementing the Early Foundation Stage which seems very similar to organizations here.

"My Support"

To me in order to support someone or something you must build a foundation first. Suppport means foundation. Being able to build a foundation it requires you to be able to hold up and to preserve. Support also means to maintain wheather it's your family, a person, the mind, spirits, courage, or establishment. I've always felt by supplying with things necessary to exitence provide for the support of a family as well.
In conclusion, support to me applies when you are backing another, as in statement, opinion, or beliefs. Also so as educators we must support our children and be there for them we they need us the most...

"Relationships and Family Partnership"

Relationships are very important to my family. Forming a relationship with the people you care and love is a special bond. The realtionship forms achievement and lays the groundwork for supporting your child. Relationships also from partnerships which includes strenghthening the family, child bond addressing diversity, and building trust. I have a special and very important relationship with my son, parents, sisters and brother. I love them all unconditionally. As adults we all go on a family vacation twice a year. All of my, sisters and their families go too. My brother and his family go as well. We are a very close net family. We eat Sunday dinner together and share what happened over our work week. We eat together as a family during the hoildays. We give thanks together all the time. By spending family time together allows me and my family to have a great and understanding partnership. My experiences with relationship/partnership would reflect my work because relationships forms achievement and supports children through their ground work. My relationships also allows me to help strengthening family, child bond, addressing diversity and building trust.

*** HOLISTIC ASSESSMENTS ***

In the lovely state of Mississippi teachers scores were lower on the objectives dealing with “Designing Investigations” and “Graphing and Interpreting Data”.study, teachers scored higher on “Identifying and Stating Hypotheses.” In both studies, teachers were weaker on “Graphing and Interpreting Data.” It can be inferred that more time needs to be spent in professional development workshops and specialty classes on designing, graphing and interpreting data so that AEST teachers can be better equipped to teach their students in these areas.Regarding their capacity to teach science to students, Mississippi AEST teachers have a high selfefficacy as far as their capacity to teach science to their students. However, I think there is a low negative relationship between teacher self-efficacy and their capacity to teach integrated process skills.
Regarding the preferred learning styles of AEST teachers, Mississippi AEST teachers prefer to learn
through reflection, through the use of visuals, through sequential activities, and by sensing.
Furthermore,I agree that  Mississippi AEST teachers that are reflective learners have a higher capacity to teach science integrated process skills than those teachers who are active learners.

I agree with the recommendation that teachers should be presented at workshops and conferences. By doing so this will allow teachers to realize they have the capabilities, confidence, and capacity to teach their students science.

~ STRESS on CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT~

I have a friend from New Orleans, Louisiana. She move to my home town after the Katrina Disaster. She has two children who were not coping with the disaster at all. It affect them a lot. Delois move was the best move for her and the girls. The girls really enjoy being in a new place. They adjusted very well in school, outside of school, in their community, and the church they have became members of.

Delois mentioned to me that most residents of metro New Orleans were unaware of the potential destruction of Katrina until Saturday August 28, less than 48 hours before it struck. In New Orleans violent tropical storms are routine and hurricanes are a seasonal reminder of the power of “mother nature.”  Delois also stated as a resident of the city I have often been faced with a choice of whether or not to evacuate, always judging whether this would be the fabled “big one.”

Indeed it was. Delois managed to maintain in a new state and stay on top.Looking at this disaster one cannot ignore the ecological component. New Orleans, like many major cities, was built in a place that posed danger, but environmental problems of global warming and coastal erosion have exacerbated the precariousness of the city.Marshes and wetlands help to slow a hurricane’s effect as it approaches the city. But erosion has diminished the size and ability of the coastal marsh and swamp to absorb the hurricane’s force. Coastal erosion has two important causes. One is that the once rich river silt that built the delta is now being directed to deep waters off the continental shelf to allow for easy river navigation. The second is salt water intrusion from canals built for oil and natural gas drilling and pipeline needs.
Many children are experiencing these same type of disaster in Missouri as well. I think all children that experience any type of disaster is affected biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial. This will be with them a life time. They will always be able to recall that moment in time.

~ CHILD DEVELOPMENT and PUBLIC HEALTH~

I chose Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I chose this topic because there are so many parents lose their babies due to this known death. I've read many articles and my text book on this commonly known death and still can't believe there is no true cause for this type of death. I must say indeed this is a very scary way to lose a infant. Most people say this death can come from laying a baby on their stomach but reseachers hadn't stated that cause.I've had friends in the past to experience SIDS. It was mentioned that ifant mortality woldwide has plummeted in recent years. Several reasons were stated that has been already put into place which are advances in newborn care, better nutrition, access to clean water, and widespread immunization. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a situation in which a seemingly healthy infant, at least two months of age, suddenly stops breathing and dies unexpectedly while asleep. If an autopsy is done carefully investigations find no apparent cause of death, the diagnosis is SIDS (Byard, 2004).  In 1990 in the United States, about 5,000 babies died of SIDS about 1 infant in 800 Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and every European and South American nation experienced a similar rate. It also helps to be born in the spring, because babies born then have fewer bedclothes in the summer, when they are 2 to 6 months old the time of highest SIDS deaths (Li et al., 2006).

~CHILD BIRTH~

I've witnessed one childbirth in my entire life. It was my childhood friend. She was a single parent at the time. I felt I needed to be there for support. Everything went so smooth I didn't think it would go as well as it did. She started having contractions. Janice call me and stated it was time. We had already planned I would be the one to drive her to the hospital. I got dressed and drove to Janice's house then to the hostipal we made it just in time. Once in the ER Janice stated to me and the staff personnel he's coming. Janice was very clam. It was April 7,1994 when Janice gave birth to a 7lb 04 ounce handsome baby boy. The room Janice was placed in was so nice she didn't  have to leave that room  for anything, everything happened in that one room. The nursey was set up before the baby arrived wood grain crib, drawers, and changing table. Janice's delivery was amazing no screaming, no crying, just joy and all smiles. Jayden is now 17 years old and planning to attend college in the fall. A star was born.~

I don't think I want to see another birth because it probably want be as peacful as the first birth I watched.
I do know that birth is a blessing and a time for joy so I would like to keep it that way...

PERSONAL CHILDHOOD

WHO WERE THE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE WHO CARED ABOUT ME?
The people in my life who cared for me were both of my parents, grandparents, and my sisters and brother.

WHO WERE THE PEOPLE IN MY FAMILY WHO NATURED ME?
The people who natured me in my family once again will be my parents and grandparents.

THE PLAYMATES THAT MADE ME FEEL SPECIAL, LOVED, AND CARED ABOUT ME:
My sisters and brother were my playmates I have three sisters and one brother we played very well together. My neighborhood friends were Tonya and Eugena we were classmates as well. The love me, my sisters, brother and neighborhood friends had was unconditional love. They all cared for me the way I cared for them. We all shared a very special bond.

FIVE LOVING, CARING, AND SPECIAL PEOPLE:

PARENTS: Mom and Dad were both loving people. My dad influenced me to get an education. Dad also made me feel special by being there for me no matter what the situation was. Mom is a very sweet, caring, and nice young lady. Mom also influenced ne to go to school and become a tecaher just as she is. Mom natured me by being the greatest mem a child could ever ask for. My mom always baked cakes, cookies, and took me out for ice cream those times were our moments to have mother and daughter time.

TRACEY: is my oldest sister she was always the one to motivate and guide me in the right directions. Tracey was first to do everything graduate from college,  and become a teacher just like mom.

TAWANDA: is the second child, she was my protector. Tawanda would always look after me she taught me alot of things. Tawanda would talk to me about going to school and doing my best so that I could graduate like Tracey. She would always tell me to study so I could become a teacher like Mom, Tracey, and herself.

TERRANCE: is the fourth child. My brother is very caring he would always make sure I was alright as if he was my oldest brother. Terrance would always tell me to be careful when playing, riding my bike, jumping rope what the situation was he looked after me. Terrance is a teacher and coach as well.

TAMMY: is the fifth child. So that makes Tammy the youngest. Tammy loved to follow me around. She was very spoiled and got whatever she wanted from Mom and Dad. Tammy too became a Teacher. As you can see my sisters and brother are Educators. My entire family has inspired, influenced, cared, and supported me through my schooling.

Other passions for early childhood teachers.

I try to maintain my passion about the subject matterthat I teach by striving to be a lifelong learner. Teachers who have genuine passion about the disciplines in which they teach are more likely to remain passionate about teaching.

Story about a child that touched my heart.

The story that touched my heart the most is Junie B. Jones. Junie B. is a kindergarten student and very excited about graduation. All the children in room nine are excited when they get their bright white graduation gowns. The teacher says to keep them in their boxes until the big day. Junie B. Jones just can't help herself. She opened her gown anyway...
